Epilepsy & Seizures in Dogs

“I see a lot of epileptic patients”, Stephanie McGrath, DVM, MS told the American Animal Hospital Association in an interview about her work as a neurologist researching CBD’s benefits for epileptic dogs and at Colorado State University. 

5.7% of the pet dog population suffers canine idiopathic epilepsy. McGrath says she’s frustrated with a lack of treatment and suggests CBD might be able to help.

She tested 16 dogs in total that remained on various epilepsy medicines while being administered CBD oil for 12 weeks and found that about 90% of the dogs receiving CBD had a reduction in seizure activity. 

McGrath says that ultimately larger trials are needed to confirm CBD’s effect on epilepsy in dogs.
